If the word “doily” immediately conjures up images of teatime at Granny’s, chances are you’ve missed the fact that these paper decorations are currently cool at weddings! The world’s love affair with all things vintage has placed them centre stage where their lacy look has hooked brides seeking a bit of old-fashioned romance.

Today’s paper doilies are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours so take advantage and incorporate them into your wedding theme (they’re cost-effective too). You can give doilies a fresh, contemporary spin as we’ve done here by turning them into pretty place cards affixed on cool summer drinks (very easy, very effective), or stay with the vintage vibe and use white doilies to create lacy garlands and confetti cones. Another gorgeous idea is to glue them to the inside of paper bags that are then illuminated by tea-light candles or to paste them to the front of glass jars filled with pastel-hued sweets for the candy bar. They also make striking cupcake wrappers.

Feeling inspired? The options are endless, so let your creativity run free! These fabulous decor goodies can be found at In Good Company ( and Moi Decor (
