THE THEME

“This shoot was about capturing an adventurous couple’s non-traditional wedding day,” says Rebecca Kooiker of Runaway Romance. “Just the two of them surrounded by nature, getting ready together, intimate vows besides a waterfall, enjoying their first meal as husband and wife, and ending the day together by watching the sun set over the escarpment. In essence the theme is natural, authentic, simple and raw.”

INSPIRATION

“For me, at the heart of an elopement is that the couple gets to celebrate their marriage in an environment and setting they love, and in a way that is 100 percent authentic to their relationship, but without the external pressures or fast pace of a traditional wedding day. There is more time and space to fully experience the day, your partner and the beauty of the vows and promises you are making to each other. The inspiration for this shoot was, as it always is when I’m planning an elopement, the feel that the couple want for their day and the freedom to celebrate their special occasion the way they want to.

STYLIST’S TIPS

“To create a celebration like this I suggest using fewer, more impactful and well thought out elements as opposed to lots of pretty things that don’t serve a purpose. Remember that your wedding day is about how you both feel, not how everything looks. When arranging an elopement either keep it really simple, so you can plan it yourself, or get someone in who knows how to run an elopement. This will cut out the logistical stress that can come with doing something different to the norm. If you want to use a non-traditional space for your wedding celebration, it is essential that you get the right permission, legal access and are aware of the logistics in the specific space. Also, be aware and respectful of the impact you make on that space, as it is more sensitive than a brick and mortar venue. Try to leave it better than you found it, so someone else can enjoy its beauty for their special day.
