How did your groom propose?
Le Roux went all out! He picked me up from work, supposedly to meet friends, but took a detour to his place where he blindfolded me. When he took off the blindfold, I was surrounded by hundreds of beautiful roses and candles everywhere (and Le Roux) down on one knee. I was absolutely speechless! Later that evening we enjoyed French Champagne and a home-cooked meal he had specially prepared for me. It was the perfect start to our magnificent journey!
Tell us about the theme of your wedding.
My fondest memory growing up was of holidays on my grandfather’s farm – beautiful horses, mountains and open plains as far as the eye could see. The moment we arrived at Hartford House in Mooi River in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, I was surrounded by a nostalgic familiarity and knew we had found the perfect setting for our big day. Emma-Jean Stephenson was our in-house coordinator and she went the extra mile to make our wedding the most special day of our entire lives. The classic colonial elegance of Hartford House inspired me to go with a timeless, formal yet cosy theme. Our colours were chosen to fit with the beautiful gardens and spring blossoms: white, grey, stone, dusty mint green and soft pink. I chose to wear two wedding dresses – the first was a Rosa Clara design and the second a Maggie Sottero gown. Both were magnificent!
And the menu?
We were very fortunate to have Jackie Cameron, one of South Africa’s top chefs, on board at Hartford House. Our menu featured a starter of smoked salmon salad-nori terrine with caper crème, quail eggs, cherry tomatoes, micro herbs, herbed croutons and caviar. For mains, guests enjoyed pan-seared beef fillet with fresh horseradish, horseradish-potato crème, fresh green beans, roasted garlic and baby herbs with red wine sauce. For dessert we served individual cakes with mint syrup and mint-flavoured ice cream, garnished with fresh mint.
What was the highlight of the day?
Our wedding day was so perfect, it’s almost impossible to highlight only one moment. If I have to pick a few though, one must be the look on Le Roux’s face when I walked down the aisle. I have never felt so special in my entire life! Another special moment was when our two pageboys arrived with the rings on our guest of honour, Egor – a black Frisian horse. We also had a photo booth at our reception, and it was a great hit amongst our guests! Everyone had such an amazing time and the party lasted until the early hours of the morning.
