Wedding invitations. The start of something beautiful! But there are a lot of different elements and details to keep in mind.  Before you get hung up on which font and fabulous colour palette to go for, here’s what really needs to go into your wedding invitations…

Start with a Save the Date

When it comes to sending out a save the date, you can never give too much notice – particularly for destination weddings or if you’re inviting lots of overseas guests. All that’s required on this is your names, your wedding date and the city or town where you’re having it. This allows guests to start researching flights and accommodation – even if you haven’t worked out your exact venue yet. However, if you’re having quite a quick engagement, then a save the date is not absolutely necessary and you can jump straight to the invites.

Get your timings right

Typically, save the dates are sent out six to eight months in advance, invitations to destination weddings three months in advance, and wedding invitations six to eight weeks in advance. However, if your seriously busy social life is anything to go by, you’ll know that people are often booked up weeks in advance, so try to give your guests as much forewarning as possible. The recommended RSVP date is three weeks before your wedding – but if you’d rather not be following up with people so close to your big day − then bring your RSVP date forward a bit.

Remember that there will always be a few no-shows on the day; be prepared and try not to be too disappointed.

Printed versus digital

Your invitation sets the tone for your wedding. A formal wedding calls for a formal wedding invitation; in this case a printed invitation. If you’re worried about everyone not getting their printed wedding invitations, then you either need to hand deliver or look into courier costs. Alternatively, opt for digital invites which avoid a lot of extra time and stress. Digital wedding invites are cost-effective, eco-friendly and efficient, particularly if you opt for a website, which automates and tracks everything for you.
