Vision in Violet
If you love the Pantone colour for 2018, ultra violet and are looking to make a statement then prepare to be inspired by this styled shoot Vision in Violet. Bold and playful, we love this modern approach and their very clever use of colour.
Describe the theme.
We approached this styled shoot with the Pantone colour for 2018, Violet playing centre stage and developed the theme from there. Violet known for its magical and mythical properties is an intense and complex colour and we wanted to showcase its rich vibrancy in a subtle but powerful way.
What was the inspiration for this look?
This look would suit the modern, bold bride who is influenced by the latest trends and looks. The colour palette was dark & dreamy, blacks and greys to highlight the Violet.
What kind of couple, season and setting would this theme suit?
This look would work beautifully for an Autumn/Winter indoor wedding. This look is for a the bold and daring couple who are looking for a dark and dreamy wedding with a bold statement of colour.
Talk us through the key elements.
Once the palette was decided we looked to our floral expert Karen Moyle from Flowers on the Stoep for inspiration on the flowers and the natural choice was the Violet Anthirium.
We wanted the Anthiriums to stand out against a monochrome backdrop, so Karen took a can of black spray paint to the large Monstera Deliciosa leaves for a striking effect. These big leaves formed the table runner and coupled with very dramatic candleholders formed the décor for the wedding tables.A smattering of violet-coloured decor items like velvet ribbon around the napkins add an elegant touch here and there.
Michelle from Cuppa Cakes by Michelle interpreted the brief perfectly, with the focus on the handmade purple Anthiriums, with finely painted floral designs on a rather classic cake design.
Violet can be a tricky colour especially when it comes to make up so Lauren from Make up by Lauren took a softer, tamer approach in both hair and makeup.
What advice would you give a couple wanting to a similar theme for their big day?
The intensity of this color can fill the details of your wedding with marvellous shades and surprising effects but one needs to be careful not to overdo it. Choose a monochrome backdrop with hints of the complex and intense colour for the most dramatic effect. Keeping the other details simple allows the main colour to play centre stage.
